DESCRIPTION

Echinacea purpurea and Echinacea angustifolia are both in the Asteraceae (sunflower) family. Combining the two species gives the full range of high potency Echinacea activity, while conserving declining wild stocks of Echinacea angustofolia.* Most American herbal use has been with Echinacea angustofolia while most European research has been on fresh Echinacea purpurea. The plants contain glycosides (especially Echinacoside), eichloric acid, chlorogenic acid, polysaccharides

(Echinacin B, Inulin, Arabinogalactans, and Xyloglucans),isobutylamines (echinacein), alkylamides, phytosterols, (Z)-1, 8-pentadecadiene, sesquiterpene esters (in Echinacea purpurea), and many other valuable compounds. Echinacea is recommended for use periodically for one or two weeks at a time, rather than continuously, because the body seems to become accustomed to it and it loses effectiveness.* The effectiveness returns in a week or two.*
