DESCRIPTION

Kola Nut is also known as Cola Nut and Cola. Kola Nut is the seed kernel of a large African tree, commercially grown around the world in the tropics as a caffeine stimulant.* Key constituents are caffeine (with traces of theobromine), tannins and phenolics, including d-catechin, I- epicatechin, kolatin, kolanin, phlobaphene, an anthocyanin pigment, kola red, betaine, protein, and starch. Kola Nut is a central nervous system stimulant, diuretic, and has astringent properties.* The phenolics and anthrocyanin are likely to provide antioxidant activity.* Historical uses of Kola Nut include increasing the capacity for physical exertion and for enduring fatigue without food, lack of emotion, brooding, and panic.* Kola Nut was said to make ideas become clearer, thought flow more easily and clearly, and fatigue and drowsiness disappear.* However, too much stimulative effect was said to cause thoughts to scatter.*
