DESCRIPTION

Nettles is also known as Stinging Nettle. The stinging, caused by the leaves injecting formic acid, histamine, serotonin, and the neurotransmitters acetylcholine and 5-hydroxytryptamine into the skin, is eliminated by cooking or extraction. Nettles is a mild diuretic, increasing urine volume, and promoting urinary health.* The German Commission E Monograph indicates use for promoting health of the urinary tract. Nettles has traditionally been given to exhausted people for its rich nutritional content.* Nettles also contains glucoquinones, chlorophyll, minerals, and vitamins. The silica content is especially valuable.

Contraindicated for water retention (edema) resulting from impaired cardiac or kidney function. Rare allergic reactions include skin and stomach irritation, edema, and oliguria.
