DESCRIPTION
St. John's Wort is also known as Goatweed, Hypercium, and Klamath weed. St. John's Wort has been used as a traditionally used herb for centuries.* Its flower contains two key ingredients, the dianthrone derivatives hypericin and pseudohypericin, and flavonoids and tannins (hperoside, quercetin, rutin, and catechin), xanthrones, monoterpense and sesquiterpenes, and phytosterols (beta-sitosterol). Xanthrones and hypericin are MAO inhibitors, which can retard the normal breakdown of serotonin and norepinephrine, leading to improvement in mood states.* The flavonoids are useful for also for supporting normal inflammation.* St. John’s wort may also help to support the menstrual cycle.*
