DESCRIPTION

Valerian Root is listed in the German Commission E Monographs for Its calming effect and ability to support normal sleep.* It has also been used for supporting gastrointestinal health.* Valerian Root contains unstable esters called valepotriates, pungent essential oils (valerenic acid and isovaleric acid), related sesquiterpenes and a glycoside. Valernic acid and related sesquiterpenes inhibit the breakdown of the neurotransmitter, aminobutric acid.* The valepotriates break down in extraction to produce baldrinals which have a relaxing effect.*
